Be part of something special … The WWI Wander!!

Radio X – World War 1 Wander by Radioxbrussels on Mixcloud

Have you been meaning to go to Ieper/Ypres, the Somme and other key WWI locations ever since you arrived in Belgium? But somehow you just got too busy…?

Are you Canadian?  If so, click on this link to get your free eBook “Top 12 WWI Factoids for Canadians”….  everything you never knew about WWI and were too embarrassed to ask!

Along with your eBook, you’ll get a link to take you directly to the specific information on the September 28th day trip.

Or maybe you’re British or Irish ? Then click on this link for your tailored eBook on “Top 12 WWI Factoids for the UK & Ireland”. You’ll find some fun and interesting anecdotes you’ve probably never heard before.

Even if you’re from another Commonwealth country — or any other country — you’re sure to find the Factoids interesting.

Join me for a full day’s wander experiencing battlefields and monuments from the First World War.  We’ll explore key sites from 1914-1918 and the stories of the people whose lives were impacted by the Great War. I’m planning an amazing day trip that will begin by visiting sites that will give you a good overview of the key events of WWI in Belgium and neighbouring areas of France.

I’m joining forces with passionate war raconteur and battlefield guide Willie Mohan of WM-Tours to offer you the opportunity to re-live events that changed the lives of both soldiers and civilians. We’ll focus primarily on the stories of British and Commonwealth countries, yet Willie will help you visualise all the players in a particular battle.

I’m creating a series of WWI Wanders, starting with this first one to the battlefields, cemeteries and monuments of the Somme around Arras, France.

We’ll wander to the places that resonate the most with people of Canadian, British & Irish backgrounds. Everyone is welcome, but if you’re Canadian or British you will have more of a connection to the places we’ll be seeing…following in the footsteps of our relatives and compatriots.

You’ll explore these special places on the Somme, literally standing on ground where our ancestors fought, taking a break for a sit-down meal at lunch and an afternoon snack:

  • Vimy Ridge – tunnels and trenches as well as the beautiful Canadian memorial overlooking the former battlefields
  • Lunch in beautiful Arras, France
  • Newfoundland Park – incredibly well-preserved fields with trenches used by the Newfoundlanders (not yet part of Canada) and British
  • Tea break at the Ulster Tower with views over the battlefields and the Thiepval memorial
  • Courcelette – extensive battlefields (now farmers’ fields) that allow you to feel the impact of the spaces and distances involved in the battles, as well as moving cemeteries with graves of Canadian, British and other Commonwealth soldiers

It will be a full day, leaving sharp at 9:00 and returning about 19:00, yet you you’ll be travelling in comfort and enjoying the personal attention that Willie and I can provide to a small group, giving this trip an intimate feel.  Willie and I are all about storytelling, so you’ll have a chance to hear and feel what it was like for the men fighting in these battles, with personal stories about some of the key characters.

Call or email me for more information! I’d love to have you join us on a special WWI Wander to the Somme — or a day around Ieper/Ypres!
